Agriculture is one of the oldest activities of humanity, playing a key role in the formation and development of societies. It is the economic engine of many countries and feeds millions of people around the world, but how is it distributed? How is it able to serve everyone? This project proposes a critical look at the role and distribution of global agriculture.

In recent centuries, humanity has developed technologies that have enabled the exponential growth of agricultural production. However, we still face major challenges, such as the sustainability of this activity, climatic interferences, and especially hunger. Despite the global productive capacity, millions of people still suffer from food insecurity.

Importance and Connection to the Real World

Agriculture, besides producing food, is responsible for generating jobs and for the economic development of many countries. However, the unequal distribution of these benefits, as well as the allocation of a large part of agricultural production for animal feed or for biofuel production, contributes to maintaining the food insecurity situation in the world.

Our project aims to investigate the relationship between the distribution of global agriculture and the persistence of hunger, in order for us to better understand these dynamics and reflect on possible solutions. Therefore, our study gains relevance as it deals with fundamental aspects for human survival and development.

Activity Title: Producers and Consumers - The Distribution of Agriculture and Hunger

Project Objective

Explore the distribution of global agriculture and its relationship with the problem of hunger, unraveling the production process and the difficulties that arise for access to food.

Detailed Project Description

Each group of students (composed of 3 to 5 members) will be responsible for investigating a specific country, focusing on its productive profile (main agricultural products), food consumption, and issues related to food security.

It is important to emphasize that the country to be studied will be assigned by the teacher in order to ensure a wide range of varied and interesting cases.

Required Materials

• Internet access for research.
• Materials for producing graphics such as paper, colored pencils, rulers, etc.
• Text editing software for writing the report.
• Presentation materials (if deemed necessary), such as cardboard, colored pens, etc.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

1. Research: Students must investigate the agricultural profile of the assigned country, identifying the main cultivated and raised products and the areas dedicated to each activity.
2. Graphics: Based on the collected data, students will create bar and pie charts to illustrate the information.
3. Thematic Map: Students will create a thematic map representing the distribution of agricultural activities in the studied country.
4. Hunger and Food Security: Students must research the situation of hunger and food security in the country in question.
5. Report: Finally, each group must prepare a report detailing the information found, the activities carried out, and the conclusions drawn.

Project Deliverables

The group must deliver:

1. Bar and Pie Charts: Representing the distribution and importance of various products in the agriculture of the studied country.
2. Thematic Map: Showing the distribution of agricultural activities in the country.
3. Written Report: It should have four main parts:
   • Introduction: Contextualizing the chosen country, the relevance of the study, and the project's objective.
   • Development: Explaining the agricultural theory of the country, detailing the activities carried out, the methodology used, and presenting and discussing the results obtained.
   • Conclusion: Summarizing the main points, explaining the learnings and conclusions about the project.
   • Bibliography: Indicating the sources that supported the work.
4. Presentation of the work (if deemed relevant): Brief oral presentation of the work done and the results obtained.

The production of the graph, the thematic map, and the written report are fundamental steps for the development of the proposed technical and socio-emotional skills, such as graph interpretation, information analysis, time management, teamwork, effective communication, and critical thinking. The written report, in particular, allows students to work on their synthesis, argumentation, and writing skills, as well as providing an opportunity to reflect on the work process and the results obtained.
