European Union

Contextualization

The European Union is an economic and political bloc currently formed by 27 European countries. This bloc was constituted after World War II, with the main objective of establishing peace in the region, which had been the scene of two major global conflicts. In addition, it intended to promote cooperation and integration among its members, both economically and politically, in order to strengthen its position in the world.

The formation of this bloc made possible several significant changes in Europe, not only at the political and economic level, but also at the cultural and social level. However, its implementation was not simple, and many challenges arose along the way, such as the issue of Brexit, the approach to the refugee crisis, the management of economic issues, and monetary union. Therefore, understanding how these challenges were dealt with is of paramount importance for understanding the current global scenario.

Introduction

The European Union, despite being a recent bloc, has a strong presence in the global economy, representing a significant share of world GDP and being one of the largest economies in the world. At the same time, the bloc plays a crucial role in international politics, especially in conflict management, promoting human rights, and environmental issues.

This importance stems not only from the bloc's wealth and size, but also from its ability to influence the political, social, and economic configuration of other regions of the world. The European Union, as the world's largest donor of development aid, has a powerful voice in global affairs and the ability to shape international policies and norms in the areas of trade, environment, human rights, and many others.

Therefore, understanding the European Union is crucial to understanding the dynamics of the contemporary world. This project aims to provide a deep immersion in this issue, connecting theory with practice through a didactic, interactive, and challenging activity.

Practical Activity - The European Union Game

Project Objective:

The main objective of this activity is a deep understanding of the European Union. Students will research and prepare an educational board game, a "Questions and Answers" model, addressing political, economic, cultural, and historical issues of this bloc.

Detailed project description:

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 and each group will be responsible for creating a board game. Each game must consist of at least 50 questions divided into the following categories:

  1. History of the European Union
  2. Political Aspects
  3. Economic Aspects
  4. Culture and Society
  5. Challenges and Perspectives

The questions should be well-structured, with verifiable answers and related to the topics of each category. The game should be creative, engaging, and informative, using resources such as images, maps, and graphics to support the questions.

Materials required:

  1. Materials for building the board: Cardboard, cardboard, markers, colored pencils, etc.
  2. Online resources, books and documentaries to research the questions.
  3. Tokens or pawns to represent the players on the board.

Detailed step-by-step instructions for carrying out the activity:

  1. Research: The groups should begin the activity by doing in-depth research on the topics in each category. This research should involve reading books, articles, and online documents about the European Union, as well as using videos and documentaries to broaden understanding.

  2. Creating the Questions: After the research, the groups should begin the process of creating the game questions. Each question should be accompanied by a verifiable answer and a brief explanation. The questions should be clear, concise, and related to the topics in each category.

  3. Building the Game: Once the questions are ready, the groups should begin building the game board. It is important to remember that the game should be visually appealing and easy to play.

  4. Review and Testing: With the game built, the groups should go through a review and testing process. This involves playing the game multiple times, checking that all questions are correct, and making adjustments to the board or rules if necessary.

  5. Game Presentation: Finally, each group should present their game to the class, explaining the rules, the creation process, and answering any questions.

Project Deliverables:

At the end of the project, in addition to the board game ready to play, students should submit a written report that will be divided into four main topics:

  1. Introduction: In this section, students should contextualize the theme, explain the relevance of the European Union in today's world, and define the objective of the project.

  2. Development: Here, students should detail the theory researched in the project's central topics, describe the process of creating the game, the methodology used, and present some examples of questions developed.

  3. Conclusions: At this point, students should express what they learned from the project, what were the main challenges faced, and what creative solutions were found during the execution of the work.

  4. Bibliography: Students should indicate all sources used to carry out the project, whether for the construction of the game or for the writing of the report.

This report should be submitted together with the game and will be a fundamental part of the evaluation, as through it the teacher will be able to understand the construction process and the learning that the students obtained during the execution of the project.
