From protectionist and import substitution policies to economic liberalization and market opening measures, these decisions have had a major impact on the socioeconomic configuration of Latin American countries.

Project Objective

The project aims to encourage students to analyze the political and economic history of Latin American countries, highlighting the transformations and continuities associated with the globalization process, the motivations for adopting different economic policies and their social impacts, and the transition from dictatorial regimes to democracies in the region.

Project Description

Students will be grouped into teams of 3-5 members, and each group will be responsible for choosing two Latin American countries to study. The activity will be divided into three parts:

1. Research and compilation of information on the political and economic history of the chosen countries, focusing on the transition from dictatorial regimes to democracies and the economic policies implemented in this context.

2. Creation of a visual presentation, such as slides or online murals, to present the information gathered, comparing and contrasting the trajectory of each country.

3. Writing of a detailed report elaborating on the conclusions drawn from the research and group discussion.

Materials Required

• Internet access for research.
• Presentation software (e.g., PowerPoint, Google Slides, or online tools like Padlet).
• Material for writing the report (Word, Google Docs).

Steps to Carry Out the Activity

1. Each group chooses two Latin American countries to analyze.

2. Students conduct extensive research on the political and economic history of the chosen countries. They should focus on the transition from dictatorial regimes to democracies, the economic policies implemented during and after the dictatorship, and their social impacts.

3. Based on their research, students create a visual presentation that highlights the similarities and differences in the political and economic trajectories of each country.

   • Conclusion: Summarize the main points of the work, discuss the findings and lessons learned, and reflect on the importance of understanding the politics and economy of Latin America.

   • Bibliography: Identify the sources used in the research and preparation of the report, including books, web pages, videos, etc.

Students will be evaluated based on the quality and depth of their research, the quality of their visual presentation, the quality of their written report, and their collaboration and interaction within the group.
