Introduction

This project aims to present one of the most significant events of the 20th century, the Second World War. By shedding light on this dark period of our history, we intend to provide tools for you to understand the processes that led to the emergence of fascism and Nazism, the consolidation of totalitarian states, and extermination practices such as the Holocaust.

Secondly, we will examine the dynamics of colonialism in the African and Asian continents, as well as the responses of local populations to these processes. We will also explore the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and how it emerged in response to the massive violence and human rights violations that occurred during the war.

Finally, we will discuss the causes of the conflict and try to understand the motivation for the outbreak of the Second World War. All this work aims, in addition to enriching your historical knowledge, to develop socio-emotional skills such as time management, communication, problem-solving, creative thinking, and proactivity.

Contextualization

The Second World War was a conflict that involved virtually the entire planet and had profound and lasting consequences. The war saw the rise of superpowers such as the United States and the Soviet Union, the birth of international organizations like the UN, and strongly influenced the second half of the 20th century, directly influencing the politics, economy, and culture of numerous countries.

In the current era, where the effects of increasing nationalism and racial tensions are increasingly present, it is essential to understand the events of the Second World War, not only to learn from the past but also to apply these lessons to our present and future. Studying this period can help us develop a better understanding and respect for diversity and human rights, as well as highlight the importance of resolving conflicts in a peaceful and diplomatic manner.

Project Objective

The group work aims to broaden students' understanding of the context, causes, and consequences of the Second World War. Through this activity, students will have the opportunity to explore different perspectives and resources for study and reflect on the impacts of this historical event.

Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, and each group will be responsible for studying a specific aspect of the Second World War. The topics can be: the emergence of fascism and Nazism, the Holocaust, the unfolding of the war in the African and Asian continents, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the causes of the conflict.

Activity Steps

3. Preparation of the Presentation: Each group should prepare a presentation of their topic for the class, including the historical context, main events and characters, consequences, and group reflections. The presentation can be in the form of slides, video, podcast, among others.

4. Presentation to the Class: Each group will present their topic to the class and answer possible questions. All students should participate actively, both in the presentations and in the questions.

5. Final Report: After the presentations, each group should prepare a report, following the structure: introduction, development, conclusions, and bibliography. The introduction should contextualize the topic and outline the report's objectives. In the development, the research conducted, the path taken by the group, and the results obtained should be detailed. The conclusions should summarize the main points and explain the group's learnings. Finally, the bibliography should list all sources used.

Project Delivery

The final project delivery will be the presentation made by each group and the final report. Both should reflect the research, discussions, and learnings of the group. Students should pay attention to the clarity and organization of their presentations and reports, as well as the coherence and depth of the content explored.
