Judo is a Japanese martial art that has become a sport and is currently practiced worldwide, being one of the Olympic modalities. Its techniques are mainly focused on physical combat, consisting of throws and immobilizations. In addition, Judo also emphasizes physical, mental, and moral development, seeking to shape a more balanced and conscious citizen of their role in society.

The history of Judo began in the 19th century with Jigoro Kano, who systematized the practice of martial arts in Japan, eliminating dangerous strikes and transforming it into a safe and beneficial practice for health. The word "Judo" means "gentle way," symbolizing the idea of using the opponent's strength to one's advantage instead of directly fighting it.

Introduction

In this project, we will delve into the study of Judo, both in theory and practice. We will learn about its origin, philosophy, rules, and techniques, as well as the importance of the sport for health and well-being.

We will also learn about the grading system, represented by belts, and the scoring system, which is essential to understand how matches are won. Additionally, we will learn about the different types of strikes and immobilization techniques, as well as the posture and discipline required for practicing the sport.

Practical Activity: "Exploring Judo"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to provide an in-depth understanding of Judo, its rules, history, techniques, and importance for physical and mental well-being.

Project Description

Divided into groups of 3 to 5, students will research the emergence of Judo, its rules, the belt system, scoring, and the underlying philosophy of this martial art. They will also engage in a "simulated demonstration" of a Judo competition, taking on various roles, from fighters to judges and commentators.

Required Materials

For this project, students will need:

• Internet access for research
• Paper and pens/pencils for notes
• A safe space for the "simulated demonstration" of the Judo competition
• Colored belts (can be made using fabrics or paper)
• Camera (optional) to record the "simulated demonstration"

Project Step by Step

1. Judo Research: Each group will research in detail the history of Judo, its rules, scoring and belt system, and its main strikes and immobilization techniques. This learning will form the basis for the "simulated demonstration".

2. Organization of the "Simulated Demonstration": After the research, each group will organize a simulation of a Judo competition. The roles (fighters, judges, commentators) will be divided among the group members. All aspects of Judo learned should be demonstrated, either in the simulated combat or commented on by the "commentators".

3. Execution of the "Simulated Demonstration": The groups will perform the simulation, emphasizing points such as respect for the opponent, attention to rules, and discipline, fundamental aspects of Judo.

4. Report: The groups will write a report on the project, involving all the above aspects, and the practical experience of organizing and conducting the "simulated demonstration".

Project Delivery

At the end of the project, the groups will deliver:

1. Detailed project report: This document should cover all researched aspects of Judo, including Introduction (contextualizing Judo and presenting the project's objective), Development (Judo theory, explanation of the "simulated demonstration", methodology used, and simulation results), and Conclusion (recap of the main points, lessons learned, and conclusions drawn from the project). Remember to include the Bibliography used.

2. Video of the "Simulated Demonstration" (optional): If the groups choose to record the simulation, the video can be delivered along with the report, offering a practical view of the students' learning and understanding.

Throughout the execution of this project, students will learn not only about Judo but also socio-emotional skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, creative thinking, and time management.
