Context

The Solar System is an incredible subject of study that has captivated scientists and enthusiasts for centuries. The Solar System is just one of billions in the universe, but it is the only one we know of so far where life exists.

The history of the Solar System is complex and fascinating and has been built over time from observations and scientific discoveries. It is believed to have started about 4.6 billion years ago when a giant molecular cloud collapsed under its own gravity, forming a rotating disk of gas and dust. The Sun emerged in the center, while the planets and other bodies began to form from the remnants of the rotating disk. From there, the solar system went through a series of evolutionary stages, such as the Late Heavy Bombardment, where a barrage of meteorites hit the planets, and the formation of the Moon after a major impact on Earth.

The currently most accepted theory for the formation of the solar system is the Nebular Theory. This theory argues that a giant cloud of gas and dust, a nebula, collapsed under its own gravity, forming a rotating disk. In the center of this disk, the material clumped together to form the Sun, while the remnants around coalesced to form planets, asteroids, and other celestial bodies.
