Africa is Earth's second-largest continent. It is incredibly diverse, with over 1.4 billion people and a rich variety of cultures. Explore its vast landscapes, from the Sahara Desert to the Congo Rainforest.

Africa has two main regions: North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. North Africa, or Septentrional Africa, like Egypt, shares cultural ties with the Middle East. Sub-Saharan Africa, south of the Sahara, is incredibly diverse in cultures and landscapes.

Two Main Regions

North Africa: The Septentrional Region

North Africa, often called the Septentrional Region, is largely defined by the immense Sahara Desert. Its northern edge features a Mediterranean coastline, like in countries such as Morocco, linking it culturally to the Middle East. This region's dominant arid climate shapes its unique landscapes and way of life.

Sub-Saharan Africa

Sub-Saharan Africa is a vast and incredibly diverse region located south of the Sahara Desert. It features varied landscapes, from the dry, transitional Sahel zone to expansive savannas and dense rainforests, like those found in the Congo Basin. This incredible geographical diversity supports a wide array of wildlife and human cultures.

Amazing Animals

Africa is home to an incredible diversity of wildlife, found in vast national parks and reserves. Iconic animals like the majestic African elephant roam its plains, while powerful lions rule as apex predators. Graceful giraffes also stand tall, browsing on acacia trees across the savanna.

Farming the Land

Agriculture is incredibly important across Africa, providing food for millions and supporting many economies. Farmers cultivate essential crops like coffee, which is enjoyed globally, and cocoa, the main ingredient in chocolate. Other vital exports include oil palms, producing valuable palm oil used in many products.
