Cinematic Editing Theory: walkthrough

Section role: supports the 'Unpacking the Kuleshov Effect' section while the teacher formalizes cinematic vocabulary using the student sequences from Section 2 as a bridge. Slides: (1) Title — 'The Magic Between Shots'; (2) The Kuleshov Experiment — bullets: Lev Kuleshov's famous soup, actor, and baby experiment, definition of juxtaposition; (3) Third Meaning — bullets: how the viewer's brain combines two images to create an emotion not present in either shot alone; (4) Rhythmic Montage — bullets: how shot length dictates pace, short cuts for excitement and long cuts for reflection; (5) Modern Film Examples — bullets: superhero training montages, emotional flashbacks in contemporary cinema; (6) Busting Myths — bullets: addressing the misconception that montage is only for passing time; (7) Closing Slide — 'Where else in media do you see juxtaposition working?' — hands control back to the teacher to lead into the final check in Section 4.
