Decoding Earth's Climate

Section role: supports the 'Decoding the Climate: Tools and Terms' section while the teacher formalizes the scientific vocabulary and principles behind the tools explored in the preceding farmer challenge. Slides: (1) Title — 'Decoding the Climate: Weather Instruments'; (2) The Thermometer — bullets: measures temperature, unit degrees Celsius, morning low versus midday high examples like 15 degrees Celsius to 28 degrees Celsius; (3) The Rain Gauge — bullets: cylinder design, collects precipitation, measured in millimeters; (4) The Wind Vane — bullets: shows wind direction, clarifies the common misconception that an arrow points to where the wind comes from such as a North Wind; (5) Summary and Real-World Stations — real photos of South African weather stations connecting back to Mr. Khumalo's farming dilemma and setting up the upcoming junior meteorologist quiz. Closing slide: 'Which instrument would you check first after a stormy night?' — hands control back to the teacher for the quiz transition.
