Solving Linear Equations: Keep the Balance

Create a 6–8 slide deck for a 15-minute sixth-grade mathematics consolidation on solving linear equations in one variable. Slides must connect the balance idea to the formal principle that the same operation must be applied to both sides. Include: an accessible visual of equality; inverse-operation pairs; a worked one-step example x + 3 = 11; a worked subtraction example x - 5 = 7; a worked multiplication example 2x = 18; a worked two-step example 2x + 4 = 16; and a final substitution-check example. Show each transformation on a separate line, use clear age-appropriate visuals and concise text, and explicitly warn that “moving a term” is shorthand for an operation on both sides. Include brief pause points for students to predict the next legal move. Do not include a quiz or answer-key worksheet.
