Have you ever looked up at the night sky and wondered how it all began? For centuries, humans have pondered the universe's vastness and its mysterious origins.

The Big Bang Theory

The Big Bang Theory is the leading scientific explanation for our universe's origin. It describes the rapid expansion of space itself from a tiny, dense state, not an explosion *within* space.

A Tiny Beginning

Imagine everything that exists, compressed into a point smaller than an atom. This incredibly hot, dense 'singularity' was the universe's starting line. From this tiny speck, the rapid expansion known as the Big Bang began.

• Universe grew exponentially in tiny fraction of second.

First Particles Form

Just after the Big Bang, the universe was an extremely hot, dense soup of pure energy. As it rapidly cooled, this energy transformed into the first fundamental particles. These included quarks, which form protons and neutrons, and electrons.

As the universe continued to cool, the extreme energy levels dropped. Quarks, previously free-floating, could no longer exist on their own. They began to bind together in stable groups, a process called quark confinement.

Three quarks combined to form fundamental particles: protons and neutrons. These are known as baryons. They became the stable building blocks, forming the nuclei of the first simple atoms, primarily hydrogen and helium.

First Atoms &amp; Light

Around 380,000 years after the Big Bang, the universe cooled. Electrons combined with nuclei, forming the first stable hydrogen and helium atoms. This 'recombination' made the universe transparent, allowing light to travel freely.
