The verb "steal" refers to taking an object or property without permission, such as "stealing money" or "stealing a car"; the focus is on the item taken. Also, remember that we always "commit a crime" to describe the act of breaking the law. We do not say "do a crime."

Passive voice is frequently used in crime reports when the perpetrator is unknown or the action itself is the primary focus. For instance, a report might state, "My car was stolen last night," emphasizing the crime over the unknown thief. Similarly, "A man was arrested for questioning" highlights the arrest's occurrence rather than who performed it.
