Meet H2O: A Unique Molecule

Water, or H2O, is a simple yet powerful molecule. Its unique properties allow it to be liquid water, solid ice, or even steam. This versatility makes H2O essential for all life on Earth, like the water in our bodies.

Water's Three Forms

• Solid: Ice has fixed shape and volume.

Changing States of Water

Water constantly changes states through different processes. Melting turns solid ice into liquid water, like an ice cube disappearing in your drink, while freezing transforms liquid water back into solid ice in a freezer. Evaporation turns liquid water into an invisible gas, such as steam rising from a hot shower, and condensation changes that gas back into liquid, forming dewdrops on grass or clouds in the sky.
