Multiplication and Division Problems

Multiplication and Division Problems | Teachy Summary

Once upon a time, in a school surrounded by technology and innovation, there was a 4th-grade class embarking on an extraordinary mathematical adventure. Our heroes, familiar with cell phones, tablets, and modern apps, were about to discover the power of multiplication and division in their everyday lives.

It all began on a sunny morning when the teacher, an enthusiast of digital methodologies, entered the room with a sparkle in her eyes. The students were curious, and she then announced: 'Today, you will be digital influencers!' The students' eyes sparkled at the thought of their Instagram profiles filled with followers eager for a giveaway. 'But there is a mission,' she continued, 'you need to plan the giveaway using multiplication and division operations.' The room filled with excited whispers and frantic fingers on screens.

The students were divided into groups, and each group chose a theme for their giveaways, such as books, toys, and video games. Armed with their devices, they explored real giveaways on Instagram, taking detailed notes on the most common practices. As digital influencers, they needed to calculate how many prizes would be necessary to attract a certain number of followers and how to divide those prizes among the winners. Using online calculators and editing apps like Canva, they created fictional posts and presented detailed and creative plans to the class. The presentations were thrilling, and each team received constructive feedback from their peers.

After the digital influencers challenge, the teacher proposed a new mission: to become digital master chefs! Each group selected a delicious recipe from apps like TudoGostoso and CyberCook. The challenge now was to recalculate the ingredient quantities for different group sizes: an intimate dinner for 3 people, a birthday bash for 20. Carefully using operations of multiplication and division, the students transformed simple recipes into culinary masterpieces adjusted for any occasion. The presentations on Google Slides showcased the accuracy of the calculations and the new quantity of ingredients needed. The virtual dishes were ready, and the teacher couldn't be prouder.

But the adventure didn't stop there. The next challenge was to organize a party with a budget of R$100.00. Skillfully navigating sites like Americanas and Submarino, the students calculated how many units of balloons, drinks, and snacks they could buy. They created detailed tables in Google Sheets, carefully navigating prices. Each group presented their simulated decisions, enthusiastically explaining how they used multiplication and division to stay within budget. The planned party was a virtual success, and the students learned the importance of managing money in a practical and meaningful way.

As the grand finale approached, the class gathered for a reflective group discussion. The students shared their experiences and learnings throughout the challenges. They discovered the significance of mathematical operations in real-life situations, understanding that they are present in every aspect of daily life, from financial management to party planning and recalculating culinary recipes. The teacher facilitated constructive feedback among peers, and everyone recognized their skills and areas for improvement. It was a valuable lesson in collaboration and personal development.

At the end of the journey, the students realized that math was everywhere, whether in social media, the kitchen, or online shopping. The 4th graders were now equipped with skills that made their lives easier and more organized. And so, they lived happily and mathematically competent forever.
