Inicio (10 minutes)

Greeting and Introduction:
- Begin the class by greeting the students and creating a welcoming atmosphere.
- Briefly review what a department is. Explain: Remember that a department is like a state or a province; it's a part of our country with its own government [i].
Activating Prior Knowledge:
- Ask students what departments they already know. For example: "Who can name a department of Colombia?" [i].
- Write the names on the board.
Introduction to the Topic:
- Introduce the topic of the day: "Today, we are going to learn about the departments of Colombia!" [i].
- Briefly explain that Colombia is divided into departments, each with its own unique culture and geography [i].

Desarrollo (30 minutes)

Presentation of the Departments:
- Use a large map of Colombia to show all the departments [i].
- Start with the most well-known departments and then move to the less familiar ones.
- For each department, provide some basic information:
  - Name of the department [i]
  - Capital city [i]
  - Geographical location (e.g., north, south, east, west, central) [i]
  - A brief cultural or economic fact (e.g., known for coffee, music, festivals) [i]
- Example:
  - "This is Antioquia. Its capital is Medellín, and it’s located in the central part of Colombia. Antioquia is famous for its coffee!" [i]
  - "Here is Bolívar. Its capital is Cartagena, and it is in the northern part of Colombia, on the coast. Cartagena is known for its beautiful beaches and history." [i]
Interactive Activity – "Find the Department":
- Divide the students into small groups.
- Give each group a blank map of Colombia.
- Call out the name of a department and have the groups locate and label it on their maps [i].
- After a few minutes, review the answers together as a class.
Discussion on Cultural Diversity:
- Talk about how each department has its own unique culture, food, music, and traditions [i].
- Ask students if they have visited any of these departments or know anything about them.
- Encourage students to share their experiences or knowledge.
- Example: "Does anyone know what kind of music comes from the Caribbean coast?" (Answer: Vallenato, Cumbia) [i].

Cierre (10 minutes)

Review:
- Quickly review the departments covered in the lesson [i].

Group Activity – "My Favorite Department":
- Have each student choose their favorite department and draw a picture representing something about it [i].
- This could be the flag, a famous landmark, a typical food, or anything else that represents the department [i].
Sharing and Conclusion:
- Allow a few students to share their drawings and explain why they chose that department [i].
- Summarize the lesson by emphasizing the diversity and richness of Colombia’s departments.
