Objetivos

Duración: 15 minutes

The purpose of this step is to set a clear understanding of what students will achieve during the lesson on the author's intent in stories. It aims to engage students emotionally and cognitively by connecting the analysis of literary texts to their own experiences and feelings. By recognizing their emotional responses and the intention behind characters' actions, students can relate more personally to the narratives they study, which fosters deeper comprehension and enhances their emotional intelligence.

Objetivos Principales

1. Identify the author's intent in storytelling and its impact on character development and plot.

2. Develop emotional awareness by analyzing how the author's intent influences the feelings and actions of the characters.

Journey into the Heart of a Story

Guided Visualization for Emotional Connection

1. Begin by asking students to sit comfortably in their chairs with their feet flat on the ground and hands resting on their laps.

2. Instruct them to close their eyes gently and take a deep breath in, feeling their chest expand, then slowly exhale, releasing any tension.

3. Guide them to imagine a peaceful setting, such as a quiet forest, a sunny beach, or a serene mountain landscape. Encourage them to visualize every detail—the colors, sounds, and smells around them.

4. As they continue to breathe deeply, prompt them to think about a story they love. Ask them to picture the characters and feel the emotions those characters experience.

5. Encourage students to think about why the characters feel that way—what intentions might the author have had? Allow them to sit with these thoughts for a few minutes.

6. Finally, gently bring them back to the present by asking them to wiggle their fingers and toes and slowly open their eyes when ready.

Contextualización del Contenido

Understanding the author's intent in storytelling is crucial not only for analyzing literature but also for understanding the emotions and motivations behind people's actions in real life. Just as a story can shape a character's journey, recognizing the reasons behind someone’s behavior can help students develop empathy and social awareness. For instance, consider a situation where a friend seems upset; diving deeper into what might be affecting them, much like analyzing a character's motivations, allows one to respond more thoughtfully. This skill is invaluable not just in school but in nurturing strong, positive relationships in everyday life. By recognizing and pondering the intentions behind actions—whether in a story or real life—students enhance their emotional intelligence and resilience.

Desarrollo

Duración: 60 minutes

Guía Teórica

Duración: 30 minutes

1. Definition of the author's intention: It refers to the purpose or message that the author wishes to convey through the narrative. This is crucial in understanding character motivations and plot development.

2. Components of stories that reflect the author’s intent: Characters, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution all serve as vehicles for the author’s intentions. For example, in Peruvian folktales, characters often represent cultural values or moral lessons that the author wants to instill in the reader.

3. Contextual elements: Discuss the influence of cultural background on storytelling in Peru, such as the importance of community, nature, and historical events. Encouraging students to think about how these elements impact the author’s intent.

4. Examples: Share a short story or excerpt (e.g., a Peruvian folk tale) and analyze how the author’s intent shapes the characters and plot. Highlight specific lines where intention is evident, such as a character's dialogue or actions that reflect broader themes.

5. Analogy: Compare the author’s intent to a chef’s intention when crafting a dish. Just as a chef chooses ingredients and spices to evoke certain flavors or emotions, an author selects words and scenarios to elicit specific feelings and thoughts from the reader.

Actividad con Retroalimentación Socioemocional

Duración: 25 minutes

Explorando a Intenção do Autor

Students will work in small groups to analyze a selected Peruvian folk tale. Each group will identify the author’s intent, explore how it influences characters, and create a brief presentation to share their findings with the class. The focus will be on how understanding the author’s intent can enhance their emotional connection to the story.

1. Divide students into small groups of 4-5.

2. Provide each group with copies of a selected Peruvian folk tale (e.g., 'La leyenda de la laguna de los cóndores').

3. Instruct groups to read the story together and discuss: What do they think is the author's intent? What evidence from the text supports their ideas? How do the characters and plot reflect this intention?

4. Encourage groups to think about their emotional responses to the story and the characters’ motivations.

5. After the discussion, ask each group to prepare a 5-minute presentation summarizing their analysis of the author’s intention, supported by examples from the text.

Discusión y Retroalimentación Grupal

After all groups have presented their findings, facilitate a class discussion to synthesize their insights. Begin by encouraging students to recognize their emotions during the presentations: What feelings did the stories evoke in them? 'Recognize' how powerful storytelling can impact emotions. Next, encourage students to 'Understand' why these feelings might have arisen by discussing how the author’s intent influenced them. Allow students to 'Label' their emotions accurately by using emotion vocabulary, such as 'inspired', 'sad', or 'thoughtful'. Then, prompt them to 'Express' their thoughts on how the author’s intent contributed to their emotional experience. Finally, guide the discussion towards how they can 'Regulate' their responses in future readings by being aware of their emotional reactions and considering how the author’s intentions shape multiple layers of meaning in stories.

Conclusión

Duración: 15 minutes

Reflexión y Regulación Emocional

To conclude the lesson, the teacher will facilitate a reflective discussion where students can share their thoughts on the challenges they faced when analyzing the author's intent and how they managed their emotional responses throughout the lesson. The teacher will encourage students to think about times when they felt overwhelmed or confused and how they used strategies to cope with those feelings. Students could also write a short paragraph reflecting on their emotional journey during the lesson, illustrating the connection between the narrative analysis and their own emotions. This activity reinforces the practice of self-awareness and self-management.

Objetivo: The objective of this subsection is to encourage students to engage in self-assessment regarding their emotional experiences during the lesson. By reflecting on specific challenges and identifying the strategies they employed to manage their emotions, students will enhance their emotional regulation skills. This process fosters resilience, as students learn to navigate their feelings in both academic settings and personal situations.

Visión del Futuro

To wrap up the lesson, the teacher will guide students in setting personal and academic goals related to their insights on the author's intent and its emotional impacts. The teacher will encourage students to consider how they can apply what they learned to other stories they encounter, thinking about both their emotional responses and their analytical skills in future readings. Students may write down these goals in their notebooks or share them with a partner for accountability.

Establecimiento de Metas:

1. Identify one personal goal related to understanding emotions in storytelling, such as becoming more empathetic towards characters in literature.

2. Set an academic goal to explore a new genre of stories and analyze the authors' intents within them.

3. Aim to participate more actively in class discussions, expressing thoughts and feelings about narratives studied.

4. Commit to practicing emotional regulation techniques, such as deep breathing, when feeling overwhelmed by complex narratives. Objetivo: The objective of this subsection is to strengthen students' autonomy and support the practical application of their learning. By setting personal and academic goals, students will be encouraged to take ownership of their growth both emotionally and academically. This continuity in development will help them apply their skills in future contexts, fostering a sustained engagement with literature and an understanding of their own emotional landscapes.
