Exploring Our Linguistic Heritage

Guided Visualization of the Languages of Peru

1. Begin by having students sit comfortably in their seats with their feet flat on the ground and hands resting on their laps.

2. Instruct students to close their eyes and take a deep breath in through their noses, holding it for a few seconds before exhaling slowly through their mouths.

3. Repeat this deep breathing exercise three times to help them relax and center their minds.

4. Once they are calm, ask students to visualize a vibrant market in Cusco, filled with the sounds of people speaking various languages.

5. Encourage them to imagine the colors of the traditional clothing, the smells of local dishes, and the feeling of excitement as they hear words they recognize in both Spanish and their native languages.

6. Prompt them to think about how these languages reflect the culture and identity of the speakers.

7. After a few minutes of this visualization, gently bring them back to the present by asking them to wiggle their fingers and toes, and then open their eyes when they're ready.

Peru is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world, known for its rich tapestry of languages and dialects. Over 47 languages, including Quechua, Aymara, and various Amazonian languages, are spoken across the nation. When students learn about these languages, they discover stories and traditions that have been passed down through generations. 1. La diversidad lingüística en el Perú es un tema que abarca las múltiples lenguas que se hablan en el país, destacando las lenguas originarias como el quechua y el aymara. Cada lengua representa una forma única de ver el mundo y refleja la identidad cultural de sus hablantes.

2. Según el Instituto Nacional de Estadística e Informática (INEI), más de 4 millones de personas en Perú hablan lenguas indígenas. Este dato resalta la relevancia y la vitalidad de estas lenguas en la sociedad peruana.

3. Las lenguas quechua y aymara no solo son vehículos de comunicación, sino que también cargan con historias, tradiciones y conocimientos ancestrales. Por ejemplo, el quechua tiene un riquísimo vocabulario relacionado con la agricultura y la naturaleza, lo cual es esencial para las comunidades que dependen de la tierra.

4. Entender la diversidad lingüística es fundamental para promover el respeto y la convivencia pacífica. Cada lengua es una puerta a un mundo diferente, y el respeto por esta diversidad fomenta una convivencia armoniosa en la multiculturalidad del Perú.

Explorando Nuestras Lenguas

En esta actividad, los estudiantes se dividirán en grupos pequeños y se les asignará una lengua indígena específica para investigar brevemente. Utilizando recursos como internet, libros y videos, cada grupo deberá recolectar información sobre la lengua asignada y presentar sus hallazgos al resto de la clase. Los aspectos a considerar incluyen: la historia de la lengua, su importancia cultural y ejemplos de frases comunes. Al finalizar, los grupos compartirán sus descubrimientos, que ayudarán a todos a profundizar en la comprensión de la diversidad lingüística en Perú.

1. Dividir a la clase en grupos de 4-5 estudiantes.

2. Asignar a cada grupo una lengua indígena (quechua, aymara, shipibo, etc.).

3. Brindar a los grupos acceso a recursos informáticos o impresos para la investigación.

4. Establecer un tiempo de 15 minutos para la investigación.

5. Permitir a cada grupo 5 minutos para presentar sus hallazgos al resto de la clase.

6. Fomentar la participación activa de todos los estudiantes durante las presentaciones.

Discusión y Retroalimentación Grupal

Luego de las presentaciones, el docente guiará una discusión grupal utilizando la metodología RULER. Primero, se invitará a los estudiantes a reconocer las emociones que sintieron al aprender sobre las diferentes lenguas y las culturas que representan. Se les animará a comprender por qué estos sentimientos son importantes al dialogar sobre diversidad y respeto. Posteriormente, los estudiantes etiquetarán sus emociones: ¿Estuvieron emocionados, sorprendidos, o quizás curiosos? A través de este proceso, se permitirá que los estudiantes expresen sus emociones de manera adecuada y discutan cómo estas emociones impactan su visión del mundo. Finalmente, se guiará a los estudiantes en cómo regular sus emociones al interactuar con personas de diferentes orígenes y lenguas, enfatizando la importancia de la empatía y el entendimiento en una sociedad multicultural.

Reflexión y Regulación Emocional

To guide this reflection, the teacher can use prompts such as, 'What was the most surprising thing you learned today?' or 'How did learning about different languages make you feel about your own cultural background?' This will allow students to process their emotions collectively, fostering a sense of community and shared understanding.
