Premises: This Active Lesson Plan assumes: a 100-minute class duration, prior student study both with the Book and the beginning of Project development, and that only one activity (among the three suggested) will be chosen to be carried out during the class, as each activity is designed to take up a large part of the available time.

Objective

Duration: (5 - 10 minutes)

The Objectives stage is vital for setting a clear foundation for both students and the teacher about the goals to be achieved in the lesson. This section makes sure everyone involved is on the same page regarding the learning objectives, allowing for effective guidance. By laying out the objectives, students can concentrate better on the planned activities, optimizing class time for practice and deepening their understanding of the concepts introduced at home.

Objective Utama:

1. Enable students to use prepositions accurately in English across different contexts and scenarios.

2. Enhance students' ability to distinguish between prepositions according to their usage in sentences and texts, recognizing their nuances and implications.

Objective Tambahan:

  1. Promote teamwork and conversation among students to create a more dynamic and interactive learning environment regarding prepositions.

Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The Introduction segment aims to refresh students’ existing knowledge of prepositions and underline their significance in everyday English usage. The problem scenarios present a chance for students to apply their knowledge in practical situations, while contextualization enhances engagement by showcasing the relevance of mastering correct preposition use.

Problem-Based Situation

1. Imagine you are organizing a trip to an English-speaking country. How would you use prepositions to explain your itinerary to friends and family, including travel between cities, popular spots, and your stay?

2. You've received an email in English from a friend overseas detailing recent events in their life. The email contains awkwardly used prepositions that change the meaning of the sentences. How would you assist in correcting these issues for clear understanding?

Contextualization

Prepositions play a crucial role in framing sentences in English, serving as navigational aids that structure communication. They establish relationships of time, space, and logic among various components of speech. For instance, the distinction between 'I am at school' and 'I am in school' may appear minor, yet the former signifies a specific point, while the latter suggests engagement in learning activities. This subtlety emphasizes the significance of selecting the appropriate preposition to prevent miscommunication and ensure clear messaging.

Development

Duration: (75 - 80 minutes)

The Development stage aims to enable students to creatively apply their prior understanding of prepositions acquired at home. Group work fosters language skills alongside social and problem-solving competencies essential for effective English learning. The activities are designed to reinforce the understanding and application of prepositions in diverse scenarios, making the learning process engaging and meaningful.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended that only one of the suggested activities be carried out

Activity 1 - Preposition Treasure Hunt

- Objective: Enhance recognition and accurate use of prepositions in context, fostering teamwork and critical thinking.

- Description: In this fun-filled activity, students will be split into groups of a maximum of 5 members, receiving a treasure map where hints are hidden in sentences with prepositions. Each group must interpret the clues and discover the hidden treasures scattered around the school.

- Objective: Promote comprehension and application of prepositions through spatial descriptions, while encouraging collaboration and strategic planning.

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

This stage provides a platform for students to reflect on their preposition usage and share insights, solidifying their learning. Through group discussions, students can learn from each other's experiences, identify common errors, and reaffirm their understanding of the concepts. This feedback opportunity also allows the teacher to assess the efficacy of the activities and deepen students’ comprehension of the nuances of prepositions in varying contexts.

Group Discussion

Begin the group discussion with a concise recap of the activities conducted, stressing the significance of each task in understanding prepositions. Invite students to share their experiences, hurdles faced, and lessons gained through the hands-on activities. Encourage reporting on how the correct use of prepositions impacted communication in the tasks and how they can utilize this knowledge in real-life situations.

Key Questions

1. What specific challenges did you face while using prepositions during the activities?

2. How can a solid grasp of prepositions enhance your everyday communication in English?

3. Was there any particular preposition or scenario that proved especially challenging? How did you tackle that issue?
